Good Practice

— Hanga

We promote the need for outstanding practice at all levels of decision-making and encourage ethical behaviour and inclusions where children and play are involved.

Play recognition

— Te Whakanui i te Takaro

Te Whakanui i te Takaro is our Play Recognition programme. This programme provides guidelines and standards that, if followed, produce good outcomes for play.

We work with various businesses and organisations to put good practices in place, and we help them achieve this by:

  • Recognising play is a worthwhile activity for children – it has meaning and value that adults often do not understand.
  • Providing children with the opportunity to play independently, with friends and parents regularly.
  • Promoting and encouraging play that facilitates the development of gross and fine motor skills.
  • Promoting and encouraging the development and maintenance of play environments that stimulate creative decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Incorporating Article 31 and the child’s right to play in the delivery of work.
  • Ensuring the child’s voice is included at all levels of work.

Please contact the team if you would like to learn more about how you or your organisation can be part of Te Whakanui i te Takaro.
